TALKING A GOOD GAME
After this weekend?s final Old Firm game of the season it is only fitting to remember some memorable Old Firm related quotes:
?I am often asked how the Rangers ?nine in a row? team compares with Celtic?s Lisbon Lions of 1967. I have to be honest and say I think it would be a draw, but then some of us are getting on for 60.?
Lisbon Lion Bertie Auld still feels his European Cup winning side could have given Walter Smith?s formidable ?nine in a row? side a good game.
?Defeat at Parkhead the other night for Celtic and they would have needed Robert Mugabe to count the points if they wanted to retain the title.?
BBC?s Chick Young on Celtic?s title chances earlier this season.
?There?s nothing worse than sitting in the dressing room at Celtic Park after a defeat, not a word being said, listening to them going mental next door.?
Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist remembering some of his unsuccessful trips to Celtic Park.
THRILLING END TO PREMIERSHIP SEASON
The English Premiership is coming to an absolutely thrilling climax. Chelsea brought themselves right back into the title hunt after beating Manchester United 2-1 at the weekend. Thanks to their superior goal difference, Alex Ferguson?s men still only need to defeat West Ham and Wigan in their final two games to be guaranteed of taking the crown. However, at the business end of the season when teams are jostling for position and the nerves are really starting to kick in, there are no easy games.
Meanwhile at the bottom of the league Alex McLeish?s Birmingham find themselves in a precarious position. Next week?s away match against Fulham will be crucial for the Blues. If they don?t pick up three points then they may have to start preparing themselves for Championship football next season.
CLARKE BACK TO WINNING WAYS
It was great to see Northern Ireland?s Darren Clarke win his first European tour title for five years this weekend.
The 39-year-old, who lost his wife Heather to cancer in 2006, holed a long birdie putt on the final hole to finish one stroke ahead of Robert-Jan Derksen and win the Asian Open.
DISAPPOINTING END FOR HIGGINS AT CRUCIBLE
John Higgins? reign as snooker?s world champion is over after being defeated 13-9 by Wales? Ryan Day in the second round of the World Championship in Sheffield.
Scotland?s hopes now rest on Stephen Hendry and Stephen Maguire who have both been on impressive form in the opening rounds.
