Talking a good game

TALKING A GOOD GAME

As the World Championships come to an end, here are some memorable quotes from the wacky world of snooker:

?Whoever called snooker ?chess with balls? was rude but right.? CLIVE JAMES

?If I had to make the choice between staying married and playing snooker, snooker would win.? RAY REARDON

?I am so peed off with the game and I am bored with it. I would rather be planting a few shrubs in the garden. Hopefully the match gets abandoned and maybe John Virgo and Willie Thorne will come out and play a few trick shots. I really don?t care.? RONNIE O?SULLIVAN

"I'll be getting a Bentley convertible now, I've been dying to get one!" Ronnie ?The Rocket? O?Sullivan after getting the first 147 at the Crucible this year ? worth a potential £157,000.

"I'm going to buy a Ford Focus convertible, I've been dying to get one!" Ali Carter after getting a maximum the following day and halving The Rocket?s pay cheque.

IT WASN?T PRETTY BUT GERS MAKE UEFA CUP FINAL

If you don?t concede goals then you won?t lose games. Rangers offered very little going forward against Fiorentina midweek in the semi-final of the UEFA Cup. However Walter Smith?s side managed to scrape through by the skin of their teeth thanks to some resolute defending. You wouldn?t bet against them doing the same when they come up against Zenit St Petersburg in the final.

VITAL WIN FOR DONS

Aberdeen got themselves right back into contention in the battle for third place with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Dundee United. With Motherwell not picking up any points against Celtic, the Dons may need their passports again next season. The chances of qualifying for Europe are slim, but there is still a chance.

TENSE TIME AT BOTTOM OF PREMIERSHIP

Which two sides will join Derby and be relegated from the Premiership? It is not looking good for Birmingham after they lost 2-0 to Fulham at the weekend. Bolton?s win against Sunderland along with their superior goal difference pretty much guarantees their survival. Next week Fulham and Birmingham face tough games against Portsmouth and Blackburn respectively. Reading have the slightly easier task of defeating Derby to give themselves a chance of staying up. If results go their way they may survive for another year.
