TALKING A GOOD GAME

"I would give him a big kiss. And I'd say 'you know what, Sven? Take him to the cleaners'."
Manchester City fan Noel Gallagher?s advice to Sven-Goran Eriksson following owner Thaksin Shinawatra?s reported decision to show the Swede the door at the end of the season.

"Technically he is the worst player I have ever seen in my life - and he knows it. He has no skill at all. We all have more skill than him."
Blackburn striker Benni McCarthy is full of compliments for Robbie Savage.

"I don't have a preference who wins the title. The best team usually wins - except the time when we lost it. That time the best team came second."
Vintage Kevin Keegan reminiscing about his Newcastle side that was pipped at the post for the Premiership crown by Manchester United in 1996.

TIME TO DROP REFEREES TOO?

If players have a bad game then they can expect to be sitting on the subs? bench the following week. The SPL should apply the same treatment to referees who perform badly in light of Mike McCurry?s less than impressive performance in the Rangers against Dundee United match at the weekend.

Dundee United boss Craig Levein claimed that McCurry had ?bottled it? after disallowing a United goal for offside and failing to give the Tannadice club a penalty after David Weir tripped Noel Hunt in the box. Perhaps if SPL referees were sent to officiate lower league games as a punishment for making wrong decisions then better standards would prevail.

TENTH TITLE FOR SIR ALEX

Sir Alex Ferguson celebrated his tenth title as Manchester United boss after his side ran out 2-0 victors over Wigan, sealing a second successive Premiership crown. It was fitting that Ryan Giggs, who has been a loyal servant of Ferguson, should net the second goal that guaranteed the win.

When asked after the game if he was considering retirement Ferguson replied: ?What would you do without this? Tell me.? There?s no doubt the United boss thinks he still has a few more seasons left in him. However if his side win the Champions League in Moscow on May 21 he may think it is the perfect time to bow out of the game.

MISERY FOR MCLEISH

Alex McLeish is facing the prospect of Championship football next season after Birmingham failed in their bid to avoid relegation from the Premiership. Despite defeating Blackburn 4-1, the St Andrews side were demoted from the division along with Derby and Reading. McLeish will already be plotting his route back to the top flight, although the real challenge this summer will be to persuade his big name players such as James McFadden to remain at the club.
