TALKING A GOOD GAME

"I've won a lot in my career. He has won a Super Cup and another little cup. Probably he needs to change his mentality but maybe he is too old to do it."
Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho is up to his old tricks, this time winding up Juventus boss Claudio Ranieri.

"I am a dreamer and this has been one of my dreams."
Perhaps a bit of tongue in cheek from Italian Manuel Pascali after moving from Parma to Kilmarnock.

"It was just one of those days. Everything was going great until I got into the water."
British swimmer Thomas Haffield after finishing 7th in the 400m individual medley heats.

GOLDEN HOY

Great Britain have surpassed all expectations in the Olympics so far and Scotland's Chris Hoy has been one of the heroes by winning two gold medals. Hoy is now Scotland's most successful Olympic athlete ever after his golds in keirin and the men's sprint.

Team GB are sitting third in the medal table, just behind the two superpowers of China and America who both have twice as many athletes competing at the Games. Britain have not won more than eleven gold medals at an Olympic Games since 1920 and they only need one more victory to break that record.

Rebecca Adlington has claimed much of the attention - and rightly so - after she became the first British swimmer to win two golds at the same Games for 100 years.

A special mention must go to Rebecca Romero, the former Olympic silver medallist, who completed a successful transition by winning a gold medal in the cycling.

MULGREW MAKES HIS MARK

Aberdeen's season got up and running with a hard-fought victory over Motherwell on Saturday. Charlie Mulgrew became an instant hero for the travelling support when he curled in a 25-yard free-kick with just five minutes remaining at Fir Park.

Tommy Wright made an interesting start to his Dons career. The 23-year-old could have been sent off for an attempted head-butt on Stephen Craigan before picking up a yellow card for a lunge on Steven Hammell. It is easy to see how he has already amassed 32 yellow cards and four reds in his short career.

However the real heroes of the weekend have to be Hamilton Academicals who remain on top of the SPL after a dream start to the season with six points from six. Billy Reid's young side may not have performed quite as well during their 1-0 win over Caley as they did when they defeated Dundee United but they already look a tough nut to crack and there won't be too many sides in the league looking forward to playing them.

END.
